ABSTRACT Pesantren is an Islamic educational institution that has advantages both from aspects of scientific tradition as well as the transmission and intensity of Muslims. The rapid flow of globalization has threatened the existence of pesantren, so the idea of modernization in the pesantren environment in response to the challenge of social transformation needs. However, many people are worried about the idea of modernization of pesantren oriented contemporary can affect the identity and ideology of pesantren. The focus of this research: How Is the Problematic and Effort of Institutional Reformulation, Curriculum, and Methodology of Pesantren in Azyumardi Azra's Prespective? The purpose of this research is to know the Problematic and Efforts of Institutional Reformulation, Curriculum, Methodology of Pesantren in Azyumardi Azra's perspective. This thesis is useful in the development, development and improvement of scientific treasures in the dimensions of Islamic education as well as useful also for readers and the addition of Scientific Works Library UIN Malang. In this research using research methodology: 1. Type of Research: Study Library, 2. Data Source: Primary Data Source; The works of Azyumardi Azra and Relevant secondary sources. 3. Method of Study: Descriptive Method. Conclusion: The modernization of pesantren in the form of institutions such as agriculture, fisheries or public schools within the pesantren environment has led to the collapse of pesantren identity as an educational institution for Tafaqquh fi Al-Din and producing ulama '. According to Azra pesantren should give appreciation of all the developments that occur in the present and future so that it can still produce scholars' broad-minded. Incorporating the general sciences within the pesantren curriculum has raised the question of how exactly the epistomology explains empirical Sciences or the secular sciences systematically. According to Azyumardi Azra, the idea to orient pesantren in "present" curriculum needs to be revisited because it might have a negative impact on the existence of the main duties of pesantren. Azra expects pesantren should be oriented to improve the quality of santrinya towards the mastery of Islamic religious sciences. The use of rigid and rigid methodology in the curriculum system that prioritizes cognitive mastery alone, according to Azra can lead to the process of formation of the character and personality of students ignored. Azra expects pesantren to maintain its methodology that is towards the learning process, taklim and takdib so that pesantren can form a santri into a sholeh muslim. ABSTRAK Pesantren merupakan lembaga pendidikan Islam yang memiliki keunggulan baik dari aspek tradisi keilmuannya maupun sisi transmisi dan intensitas umat Islam.
