ABSTRACT The family are considered to have an important role in children's education. The way how to educate are the family responsibilities, especially parents are important to being note. The researcher focuses on the observation of orphaned santri families at quran education institute Wardatul Ishlah, Merjosari, Lowokwaru, Malang. The effort was made to explore the process of laying the basic education in the family environment. Then the things that underlie education certainly relate to the understanding and practice about Islam by santri. This study was conducted with the objectives of: (1) Describing the pattern of education of orphaned santri family in quran education institute Wardatul Ishlah, (2) Describing the role of the family towards religious education by orphan santri at Quran Education Institute Wardatul Ishlah, (3) Describing the understanding of Religious materi by orphaned santri at quran education institute Wardatul Ishlah through the role of family. The research approachment that used by the researcher is qualitative, because the researcher constructs the meaning by the condition of religious education for the orphaned santri. Then the qualitative research is a case study that investigates the culture, discovery of the pattern and the role of the family towards the religious education of orphan Santri at quran education institute Wardatul Islah, Merjosari, Lowokwaru, Malang. The key instrument is the researcher himself who acts as a data collector and an analyzer. Data collection techniques carried out by carrying out observations, interviews, and documentation. Then the data is analyzed critically and sorted according to the description. The data analysis is performed when data collection takes place and after data is collected. The result of the research shows that : (1) the education model of orphaned santri families at quran education institute Wardatul Ishlah , Merjosari, Lowokwaru, Malang is indetical with families figure toward the childern. In spite of the mother had passed away, the families have to take an act as their mother. All needed to being done as loyality at the lesson of religion and the rule of society to making the childern be a strong person and being closer with Allah Subahanahu wata?ala (2) the families role are constructing to made the orphan santri being sholih and sholihah person, obey at the rule as Allah has said and avoid all the thing that forbided by Allah Subbahanahu Wataala (3) the understanding of religious education by santri relate with the proccess of the pass life of santri and made the childern alway rememmber Allah subahanahu wataala. Moreover, the relation between the Children and Allah not only as fear. But also causes by the power of affection feeling that always love him as a human being ABSTRAK Keluarga dinilai memiliki peran penting pada pendidikan anak.
