ABSTRACT Al Qur?an is important to be learned since young because Al Qur?an will be a life orientation for every Muslim. The students? skills in reading Al Qur?an in TPQ is indicated as a lower level because of the limited number of the teachers and the less knowledge of the teachers about the subject. Besides, the use of media in a learning process is not appropriate enough, so the learning process is flat and bored. In this case, interactive learning is the answer of this problems such as using animation media in a learning process. By using this media, the reading skills of the students are expected to improve. The aims of this research are: (1) knowing the information about objective condition of the students? skills in reading hijaiyah letters, (2) knowing the procedures of applying animation media to improve the students? skills in reading hijaiyah letters and (3) knowing the improvement of students? reading skills after using animation media in a learning process in TPQ Al-Ikhlas Dodol-Temurejo Kasembon Malang. The type of this research is Collaborative Action Research which refers to the Kemmis and Taggart?s models which developed the models into four steps in an action research. Action research process is passing through the four steps (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. This research consists of two scales which have four meetings in every scale. Here, the technique of data collection in this research is description and documentation. Also, technique of data analysis is using descriptive qualitative and quantitative. In this research, indication of the goals is when the score of students? reading skills rises to achieve 75%. The results of this research are (1) the students? skills in reading hijaiyah letters can be improved using an animation media in the learning process, (2) the procedures of applying animation media are, a) students observe and understand about the animation media and the tools that is used, b) students watch the animation media and then listen to the teacher?s explanation, c) students listen and imitate the pronunciations, d) students come in front to do the agendas individually; pronouncing the letters, reading the letters, writing the letters, and combining the letters to be a word using animation media which have explained by the teacher before, (3) applying animation media in a learning process shows the improvement in every scales. Before the measure, the percentage of each students is 40%, ricing in Scale I to be 49% and in Scale II to be 86%. ABSTRAK Pendidikan Al-Qur?an sangat penting diberikan kepada anak sejak kecil, karena Al-Qur?an sebagai pedoman hidup bagi setiap umat muslim.
