ABSTRACT Communication is certainly by good and proper Indonesian language, both orally and in writing, and cultivate an appreciation of the work of Indonesian literature. In order to communicate well, we needs to learn a good and proper way of speaking. One of the most important things in teaching and learning Indonesian is reading and writing. It?s because this is the basic thing so that students can grow and receive the lessons from teachers or researchers who delivered. Without these two things the teachers or researchers will have difficulty in teaching and learning process. In the fourth grade students now, every student is required to start learning to write a simple composation. The purpose of Classroom Action Research activities (PTK) improve the ability to write simple essays on the field of study of Indonesian language in grade 4 students by using series drawings in general is for additional functions but has its own function as a tool to help create a more effective learning situation. Type of research used is Class Action Research (PTK) .This PTK implementation consists of 2 cycles. Every action includes planning, action execution, observation, and reflection. The principle of data collection in the PTK is not much different from formal research. In the PTK generally collected two types of data, namely qualitative and quantitative data. The data is used to describe the changes that occur, both changes in student performance, teacher performance, and changes in classroom atmosphere. Using a combined research method which is combination of qualitative and quantitative methods that will be further elaborated in descriptive qualitative descriptions. Quantitative data in this study is the result of learning to make simple compose in the form of numbers that will be evaluated through the test. While the qualitative data will be the sentences that describe the activity of student activeness in learning activities, student expression about the level of learning outcomes (cognitive), and enthusiastic students, which will be collected data through observation and interview. The assessment technique used by the researcher is the assessment of student learning outcomes in writing simple essay based on predetermined criteria. To know the value of student learning outcomes, the researchers divided into two categories namely very good category with the interval value between 90 s.d. 100, while the second category is included in good category with value interval between 70 s.d. 89. The results showed that there is an increase in the results of learning in writing simple essay by using the image series media on the fourth grade students of SDN Genukwatu Ngoro Jombang.
