ABSTRACT Women emancipation is one of discussion that must be resolved at this time. This topic needs to be observed and studied very carefully because women still experience dicrimination until now. Meanwhile, one of the media that can represent a deviation between genders is a literary work. Based on that principle, the researcher tried to make a study on characters of female in novel ar-Rabi? al-Ashif And revealed the relationship between the imaging of novel and position of women in Arab society. Based on that principle, the the researcher tries to make this study based on saveral questions in order to increase the accuracy and improve the focus of study in this research. questions that will be studied in this research are : how female characters are portrayed in novel ar-Rabi 'al-Ashif, and what is the relationship between the female characters in the novel with the condition of Arab society? This research use qualitative descriptive method. This study use Reseach Library for data collecting method which focuses on the reading of written texts and not based on statistical data. As for the data analysis has been obtained, the researchers used the feminist analysis approach. The results of this study are in the novel ar-Rabi 'al-Ashif there are five female characters that is: Manal, Ummul Izza, Manal?s Mother, Abdul Mu'thi?s Mother, and Aliyah. Each of these characters have special characteristics that differenciate each other. While the relationship between the female characters which reflected in the novel ar-Rabi 'al-Ashif with the condition of Arab society is contained a strong correlation. The female characters in the novel ar-Rabi 'al-Ashif is a representation of Arab society's perception for a woman. Some Arabs?s perception about women view women as holders of domestic affairs, object of polygamy, and have intellectual deficiencies ABSTRAK Salah satu diskusi yang harus segera cari penyelesaiannya dimasa sekarang ini adalah diskusi mengenai penerapan emansipasi bagi wanita di mayarakat. Topik ini perlu untuk diamati dan pelajari dengan sangat cermat karena hingga saat ini masih terdapat diskriinasi gender yang dialami oleh kaum wanita. Sedangakan, Salah satu media yang dapat merepresentasikan penyimpangan antar gender tersebut adalah karya sastra. Berdasarkan asa pemikiran tersebut, maka peneliti mencoba untuk membuat kajian mengenai karakter wanita dalam novel ar-Rabi? al-Ashif dan berupaya untuk menyingkap hubungan antara penggambaran dalam novel tersebut dengan kondisi masyarakat Arab. Berdasarkan pada kerangka berfikir tersebut, maka penulis mencoba untuk melakukan kajian ini berdasarkan beberapa pertanyaan guna menmbah ketelitian dan meningkatkan fokus kajian dalam penelitian ini. Adapun masalah yang akan dikaji dalam penelitian ini adalah : bagaimana karakter wanita yang tergambardalam Novel ar-Rabi? al-Ashif, serta apa hubungan antara karakter wanita dalam novel tersebut dengan kondisi masyarakat Arab? Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif dalam penelitiannya, selain itu, dalam melakukan pengumpulan datanya penelitian ini menggunakan metode Library Reseach yang menitikberatkan pada pembacaan atas teks-teks tertulis dan tidak berpijak pada data-data statistik. Sedangkan untuk analisa data yang telah didapatkan, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan analisa feminis. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini adalah bawha dalam novel ar-Rabi? al-Ashif terdapat lima karekter wanita yaitu : Manal, Ummul Izza, I
