Abstract :
The validity is very important component on the test. It is an instrument to measure what it is supposed to measure.There are four types of validity: face, content, construct and empirical validity. Face and content validity is important on the test, because it is major influence on the validity. Like in another kind of test, English national examination for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012 must also have content and face validity. Based on the explanation above, the validity of English national examination test for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012 especially face and content validity is analyzed. The objectives of this research are (1) To describe the face validity of English national examination for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012, and (2) To describe the content validity of English national examination for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The data of this research is the item validity of English national examination test for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012 and the data source in this research is English national examination test for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012. The result of this study leads to the conclusion that the validity of English national examination for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012 especially on the face and content validity is good. On the face validity, the test has good layout with good arranging. The test paper divided into one column and consistent in using the capital letter, but there are some inappropriate in test typing and test instruction, but there is no mistake in grammar.While, on the content validity, the entire of the test item covers the indicator of graduated competence standard, although there are some indicators of graduated competence standard uncover on the test item. The validity of English National Examination for vocational high school in the academic year 2011/2012 especially face and content validity is good, but it still need to be improved. For example, on the face validity is needed to be revised in test typing and test instruction, while on the content validity, it is better if all of the indicator in graduated competence standard covers in all of the item test, not only the all of the item test that covers all of the indicator in graduated competence standard.
