Abstract :
Communication is the way for people to connect with others. By doing communication people can express their feeling, idea, emotion, and desire. When they do communication with other, they try to deliver their feeling, idea and emotion by saying some utterances.In order to have a good communication, people need to understand what their partner says. But, sometimes there is misunderstanding between speaker and hearer. What the speaker intent is not same with the hearer’s grasp (implicit meaning). So, people have to know how to use language in communication to avoid misunderstanding. The purposes of the study are to find out the types of illocutionary actwhich have representatives or assertive, directive, commisive, expressive, and declaration in the movie script of Cars 2. To find out the functions of illocutionary act; competitive, convivial, collaborative and conflictive in the movie script of Cars 2. In this research, I usedescriptive qualitative research to analyze the illocutionary act produced by the main characters in the movie script of Cars 2. The design is qualitative because the analysis does not use statistics procedure. Besides, it tries to find out the types and functions of illocutionary act in the movie script of Cars 2. Meanwhile, this research uses descriptive method since it describes the types and functions of illocutionary act and presents the analysis descriptively. The findings showthat there are some types and functions of illocutionary act found in this movie script. According to the type of illocutionary act, I found 60 representative or assertive types, 9 expressive types, 41 directive types, 8 commissive types and 0 declaration types. The majority type is representative or assertive which means that the characters here are commit to the truth of proposition. In addition, I also found four functions of illocutionary act, they are 60 collaborative functions, 15 convivial functions, 41 competitive functions and 2 conflictive functions. The majority function is collaborative which means that the characters here do not use politeness in uttering utterance because collaborative does not relevant with politeness. Based on this research, it is found that illocutionary act can be produced in most of utterances. As the result of this study, it is suggested for the students, lectures, teachers, and for the readers to learn more about illocutionary act to improve and enrich their knowledge.
