Abstract :
At this time Rice Straw still not get significant treatment. Because the straw is generally left abandoned in the fields after the harvest season. Though Rice straw contains starch, cellulose and glucose is high enough. Problems that are often faced in the chemical industry is the use of cheap useless material into the material - material that is more useful and valuable. Alcohol can be produced from plants that contain lots of cellulose compounds with the help of microbial activity. Use of Alcohol, especially ethanol as a fuel which is one of solving the energy problem today. Because we know the use of energy (especially oil) is increasing from year to year. While fuel sources in use are running low, so an alternative as seek new sources of fuel. Conditions established by 2500 ml of solution hydrolysis, hydrolysis pH 3, the hydrolysis time of 2 days, and the fermentation pH of 4.5, whereas variables that run is the time of fermentation (2,3,4,5,6,7 (days)), rice straw weight (40,50,60, (g)), and the volume of stater is added (8%, 10%, 12%, times the volume of liquid fermentation). The results showed that the best conditions on the weight of 50 grams of rice straw with a volume of stater who added as much as 12% of the volume of fermentation liquid is fermented for 7 days that produces ethanol concentration of 12.89%.
