Abstract :
This study aims to identify the potential of East Java cocoa beans, cocoa analyzing the competitiveness of East Java, to analyze the factors affecting the competitiveness of cocoa in East Java and analyze attempts to improve the development of the cocoa industry in East Java. Analysis deskriptive quantitative methods used in this study is the method of Locatioon quotients (LQ) for answering the first goal, Trend Analysis and methods of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) to address the second objective, the method of Porter?s Diamond to answer the third objective, descriptive and qualitative analysis to answer The fourth goal. The results of this study is yhe potential and comparative advantage of cocoa in East Java are as foollows : Method of Location Quotient (LQ) shows the potential of cocoa beans Java with number (1.11 to 2.33) and the average?s LQ (1.6) per year means cocoa beans in East Java is potential for the development of processed cocoa industry. RCA produces competitiveness calculation, for processed cocoa is worth < 1. Which means that Java has not been processed cocoa products competitive in the national market. This is due to the weakness of java cocoa processing technology, and today many companies are not Java cocoa production due to the difficulty of supply of raw materials. Most of the 67.9 percent of cocoa beans exported to foreign countries ( united States, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, France ), the remaining 32.02 percent for the domestic industry. Therefore Java cocoa industry to compete with other companies such companies processed cocoa in Sulawesi and Sumatra. Method of Porter?s Diamond shows generally processed cocoa industry in East Java is not competitive because the limited infrastructure and limited access to sources of capital and multiple linear regression analysis, there are theree factors that affect the competitiveness of processed cocoa Java significantly namely export volume, export price and productivity of cocoa on stage 10%. This is consistent with the prevailing theory, that means the volume of cocoa exports, the export price of cocoa processed and productivity are positively related to competitiveness. Efforts to improve the competitiveness of the industry in the form of improved quality cocoa and cocoa quality, increase the volume of exports, maintaining export prices, cocoa processing industry cluster development, facilitate access to capital, deregulation policies and develop infrastructure.
