Abstract :
This research examines the linguistic and extra linguistic features performed by 5 th semester students in Public Speaking class at Unisbank. The data were taken by recording the students? performances by using a handy cam. The data were then transcribed and analyzed to know their linguistic and extra linguistic features used in Public Speaking class. The results of this research shows that there are ungrammatical sentences due to the use of articles 28.5% (student 1) and 16.7% (student 2), prepositions 14.3% (student 1) and 8.3% (student 2), plurality 14.3% (student 1) and 8.3% (student 2), to be 14.3% (student 1), word choice 14.3% (student 1) and 8.3% (student 2), incomplete verb phrases 14.3% (student 1) and 8.3% (student 2), past tense 16.7% (student 2), passive voice 8.3% (student 2), incomplete noun phrases 8.3% (student 2). The extra linguistic features displayed by the students are facial expression, gestures, intonation, and eye contact. So, the researcher concludes that the students have not been able to arrange sentences grammatically appropriate. Their linguistics competence may be the main reason such ungrammatical sentences. The extra linguistic features of the students are good enough.
