qualitative method to analyze the data of the research, i.e. to describe the cohesive
devices. Afterwards, the writer interprets it to find out the way the cohesive
devices create the coherence in the text of Hillary Clinton?s speech
Some conclusions can be drawn as follows: Cohesion devices used in the
text of Hillary Clinton?s speech are referencing, ellipsis, substitution, lexical
cohesion and conjunction. The types of conjunction used are Coordinating
conjunction, Correlative conjunction and Subordinating conjunction. In this text,
correlative conjunction is not found. Lexical conjunction is basically created by
repetition of the same lexeme or general nouns, this category is not found either.
Thus, cohesive devices in Hillary Clinton?s speech are creating the coherence in
the text.

properly in the text which is produced. It can make the audience understand the
meaning of the text more easily.
