Abstract :
In this study, the researcher chose the object of research in the La La Land movie by using Northrop Frye?s theory of Archetypal Criticism. Archetypal criticism in this movie is reflected on archetype myth and symbols. The researcher finds two problems in this study; the types and meanings of archetype myth that exist in the movie, and the types and meanings of symbols reflected in the movie. From these two problems, two research objectives emerged to find out and analyze the types and meanings of archetype myth and to find out and analyze the types and meanings of symbols. The results obtained by the researcher from this study used a qualitative descriptive method, the first results were the types and meanings of archetype myth in the form of four seasons, namely, winter means irony and satire, spring means comedy, summer means romance, and fall means tragedy. In the second result, the researcher finds five types and meanings of symbols, namely symbol as a motif have a literal meaning, symbol as a sign have descriptive meaning, symbol as image have formal meaning, symbol as archetype have mythical meaning and symbol as monad have anagogic meaning. This research concludes that each type of archetype myth and symbol found has a different meaning.
