Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the kind of anxiety of the major character, Nina Sayers in the psychological thriller movie entitled Black Swan. This study also focused on finding the reason why Nina Sayers has anxiety along with how she copes with her anxiety. Sigmund Freud?s Psychoanalysis theory was implemented in this study to determine the system personality to assist in finding the kind of anxiety in Nina Sayers, namely Neurotic anxiety, Realistic Anxiety, and Moral anxiety. By using the qualitative method, the researcher identified the reason why Nina Sayers suffered from anxiety, by delving into interaction amongst Nina Sayers as a major character, and the minor characters in the movie who lead her to face the conflict wherein the tension will arise and might cause the anxiety to appear. The reasons Nina has anxiety are because of the bad parenting of her mother, Erica, and the pressure of the Swan Queen role. The Defense Mechanisms theorized by Freud (in Hall, 1954) are required to cope with her anxiety, these are Projection, Denial, Displacement, Asceticism, and Introjection. The importance of this study is to give acknowledges to people about anxiety. Through this study, the readers are expected to dig more about the concept of human personality scientifically. This study also is expected to be beneficial to the next researcher to arrange another study that is still related to Psychoanalysis.
