Abstract :
Hedonism defines as the activity to pursue pleasure. Time by time, the definition of it has completely changed and become a lifestyle term. While actually, hedonism is part of human beings? daily life. One of the best ways to be a representation of society?s daily life is through literature work. In the modern era, the movie becomes popular because it presents the gesture and dialogue of the characters. So that way, hedonism attitude attempts in the movie scene and dialogue.The purposes of this research paper are to find out three major points. Those are hedonism variety, second is the hierarchy of needs, and the last is the side effect of hedonism. In order to break down the analysis, descriptive qualitative method and psychological approach are used. The researcher cites findings through the scene and script of the character. To limit the research, the researcher focuses on three characters in the movie. Those are Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Tom Buchanan. As the result of the study, the researcher found two hedonism varieties. It consists of ethical hedonism and psychological hedonism. In addition, the hierarchy of needs by Abraham J. Maslow consists of five-stage of needs. While the researcher only founds four of five stages. Lastly, side effect hedonism produces positive views and negative views.
