Abstract :
This qualitative study focuses on describing and elaborating the phenomena in the movie entitled American Gigolo. The theory applied is Freudian Psychoanalytic Theory. This study has two objectives (a) to describe the influence of libido toward the action of main characters and (b) to juxtapose the love and libido of main characters based on Freudian Psychoanalytic Framework. The findings shows that libido really affects characters? behaviors. The writer points that curiosit y may start the raise of libido. Curiosity, itself, belongs to the rational thoughts, therefore, ego as the rational part of psyche may also play a great part in raising the libido of human?s being. The writer also finds that the cause of libido is different from each character. Nevertheless, for sure, curiosity is the main factor relates to libido. Superego in the form of moral value can cause and strengthen id in the form of libido. Therefore, these three Freudian psyche aspects, namely id-ego-superego, do not work in opposite, but rather they work together with the concept of causing, strengthening, or controlling. The writer also finds that the need of love and the need of relationship can become the most basic need (id) and this need works synergically with the libido which is also part of id. Finally, the writer concludes that the id of characters really plays a great part in how the characters take certain important decision.
