Abstract :
This thesis talks about transformation form found in Celine Dion?s song
lyrics in Let?s Talk About Love album. It is quite interesting to be analyzed
because it is important for the people to make better communication and
understanding, especially in making a song. Therefore, this thesis is entitled ?A
Syntactical Analysis Of Celine Dion?s Album Let?s Talk About Love?.
The goals of this study are to describe the process of transformation, to
find out the transformational rules applied in Celine Dion?s Let?s Talk About
Love album.
Descriptive, qualitative research is used as the method of this thesis
because the data are descriptively analyzed. Meanwhile, to collect the data,
library study is used to collect the data because it is very useful to obtain the data
accurately.
Five transformational rules are found to be applied in the song lyrics in
this album. The data would be explained theoretically and each process of
transformation would be described by means tree-diagram. The three
transformational rules are found in Celine Dion?s Let?s Talk About Love, such as
(1) indirect-object transformation, (2) imperative transformation, and (3) reflexive
transformation. Indirect-object transformation is moving the indirect object to be
the direct object, and the preposition to is deleted. Personal-pronoun
transformation is transforming the concept of the SPEAKER and the HEARER into
the suitable personal pronoun. Imperative transformation is the removal of the
subject HEARER from the surface structure sentence or phrase. Meanwhile,
reflexive transformation is changing the pronoun of the object, which is same as
the subject into another suitable pronoun. The writer also found the impact do the
listener in the song lyric.
From the results of the study, the writer concluded that transformation in
Celine Dion?s Let?s Talk About Love album is a process of changing lyric into
different structure without changing the meaning which is used by the songwriter
to make other variation lyrics.
