Abstract :
The thesis entitled Mood Analysis of Barrack Obama Speech Script at Istana Merdeka (Tuesday, 9 November 2010) has two objectives. First is to find out the mood types of the clauses in speech script that is done by President Barrack Obama. The second is to explain the contextual description of interpersonal meaning of the speech. Systemic functional grammar is used in this thesis to study about mood which exists in the speech script, because systemic functional grammar describes not only the form but also the functional term. Mood is a system through which interpersonal meaning realized within the conversation. It consists of two parts; the Subject that is a nominal group, and the Finite operator that is part of verbal group, and the rest of those parts are called Residue. In this research, the data used are in the form of spoken text which is realized in written text. The research uses qualitative method, in which the data are taken from all clauses of utterances in the speech script. The data and theories of this research are taken from internet websites and library. There are 70 clauses are found in the speech script, and all of those are declarative mood. The agentive or societal roles are the speech of President Barrack Obama in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhayana and the guests at Istana Merdeka. The status is unequal. The relationship between them is close so the social distance is minimal.
