THE CULTURAL REPRESENTATION OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN IDENTITY IN RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON MOVIE 2021

Abstract :
The purposes of this research are: (1) To describe the Southeast Asian Cultural symbols that are represented in Raya and The Last Dragon (2021) and (2) To explain the representation of Southeast Asian Culture in Raya and The Last Dragon (2021). The type of this research is qualitative research. The method used to collect the data are first, watching the movie to get an understanding, to check and collect the data. Second, reading the script of the story refers to the data. The last, selecting the scenes (capture the scenes) that indicate the cultural representation. Based on Peirce?s triadic concept, the researcher found that the sign can be used to explain what was contained in the Raya and The Last Dragon Movie in visual sign. Raya and The Last Dragon contains 7 icons 4 indexes and 19 symbols. The Research results show that the researcher concluded that Raya and the Last Dragon represented the icon, index and symbol of Southeast Asian culture. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) Mendeskripsikan simbol-simbol Budaya Asia Tenggara yang direpresentasikan dalam Raya and The Last Dragon Disney Movie (2021) dan (2) Menjelaskan representasi Budaya Asia Tenggara dalam Raya and The Last Dragon Disney Movie (2021). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah pertama, menonton film untuk mendapatkan pemahaman, memeriksa dan mengumpulkan data. Kedua, membaca naskah cerita mengacu pada data. Terakhir, pemilihan adegan (menangkap adegan) yang menunjukkan representasi budaya. Berdasarkan konsep triadik Peirce, peneliti menemukan bahwa tanda dapat digunakan untuk menjelaskan apa yang terkandung dalam film Raya and The Last Dragon dalam tanda visual. Raya and The Last Dragon berisi 7 ikon 4 indeks dan 19 simbol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa Raya and The Last Dragon merupakan ikon, indeks dan simbol budaya Asia Tenggara.
