Until now the results of teaching and learning processes relating to reading
aloud as perceived by the year-seven students in junior high school have not been
satisfying yet. Various methods and approaches have been tried out to improve the
processes. That was what forms the background of this survey. This final project
dealt with students? perception towards teaching and learning processes relating to
reading aloud. By conducting the survey, the writer wanted to get the percentage
of teaching and learning processes related to reading aloud as perceived by the
year-seven students of SMP N 3 Pacitan in the academic year 2009-2010. Having
analyzed the result of this survey, there might be something useful can be done for
improving the teaching and learning processes.
To collect the data, the writer used questionnaire. She used a proportional
random sampling from the total number of the respondents. She chose 36 out of
180 respondents (20% as samples). In those questionnaires, the students were
supposed to give responses to some questions by choosing one of the response
options. The response options were credited from unfavorable to the favorable
statements. To complete the result of this research, she also conducted a class
observation and interview.
The method of data analysis used in this research was the qualitative
descriptive method. It was used to find the mean of the result. In this data
analysis, the writer used the percentage description analysis to measure the
students? perception towards teaching and learning processes related to reading
aloud.
Based on the result of the research, the writer concluded that processes of
teaching and learning of reading aloud in SMP N 3 Pacitan was weak. It was
showed by percentage 67.15%. In details, it involved that the students? role were
weak (63.50%), the teacher?s role was satisfactory (76.43%), the use of
instructional methods was also weak (63.19%), and the use of facility and
instructional media was very weak (51.67%)
