Abstract :
A daily food containing fat and an unhealthy lifestyle results in an
increase in blood cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels lead to athericlerosis
and become a cause of stroke and heart disease and other diseases. Plants winged
bean(Psophocarpus tetragonolobus L.) which has the content of flavonoids and
phenolic compounds allegedly efficacious to lower cholesterol in the blood. This
study aims to determine anticholesterol activity extract of winged in vitro and to
know at concentration how much extract of winged bee reach EC50 (Effective
Concentration). The extraction method used is a maceration method using 70%
ethanol solvent. Cholesterol concentration analysis was performed using
Lieberman-Burchard method. The ethanol extract of winged bean is made series
of concentration 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 150 ppm, 200 ppm and 250 ppm. The results
showed the percentage of decrease in cholesterol levels after administration of
ethanol extract of 37.8%, respectively; 44.11%; 52.55%; 59.25%; and 66.90%.
EC50 was achieved at a concentration of 135,69 ppm.
