Abstract :
The pineapple peel extract (Ananas Comosus (L) Merr) and avocado peel
extract (Persea americana Mill) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tanins and
steroids. Antioxidants activity is linear with sunscreen capability. The higher
antioxidant activity, better the sunscreen will be. This study aims to determine
antioxidant activity and sunscreen from the combination of pineapple peel
extract and avocado peel extract compared to with each single form.
This research has been done during April to Juny 2018 at the Chemical
Laboratory of STIKES Nasional. The study is an experimental research with
quota sampling. Activity of antioxidant was analyzed by DPPH method and
SPF value determination in vitro using UV-Vis Spectrophotometre and
ascorbic acid was used as a standard. Result IC50 extract value of pineapple
peel 229,13 ppm belonging to low category, avocado skin extract 24,90 ppm
belonging to very strong category, combination (1:1) 145,23 ppm belonging to
medium category, combination (1:2) 86,91 ppm belonging to strong category,
combination (2:1) 142,58 ppm belonging to medium category. The result of
SPF measurement value from single pineapple is 18,55 included in ultra
category, single avocado is 21,61 in ultra category. Combination (1:1) is 18,93
ultra category, combination (1:2) is 19,45 ultra category and combination (2:1)
is 19,08 ultra category.
The antioxidant activity combination of pineapple peel and avocado peel
(1:2) is stronger than the single form of pineapple peel extract, but weaker than
a single form of avocado leaf extract and ultra category with SPF
