Abstract :
Routine hematological examination is a useful examination to make a
diagnosis of an illness. One of routine hematological examination is examination
of platelet count. Hematological examination usually uses a purple-covered
vacuum tube containing Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid (EDTA)
anticoagulant. The EDTA anticoagulants which are often used in hospital
laboratories and clinical laboratories are EDTA and EDTA. The purpose of
this study was to determine the differences in platelet counts by using EDTA
and EDTA anticoagulants.
This type of the research is experimental analytic using a cross sectional
approach. The sampling technique in this study was total sampling. The subjects
of this study were the second students of the DIII program of Health Analyst class
2A of Surakarta National Health Sciences Academic Year 2017/2018. This
research was conducted in the laboratory of the Surakarta National Health
Sciences College. Data were obtained by filling out informed consent. Platelet
counts are calculated using the automatic method.
The normality test was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk test and is not
normally distributed. Data was processed by using non-parametric test, the
Wilcoxon test and p ( 0.398 ) > ? (0.05).
The conclusion of this study is that there is no difference in platelet counts
by using EDTA and EDTA anticoagulants.
