Abstract :
The skin and bones of asian swamp eel (Monopterus albus) contain
collagen compounds which can be used as antioxidants. This study aims to isolate
collagen from the skin and bones of asian swamp eel and to determine the
antioxidant activity and to determine the antioxidant activity using DPPH and
FRAP method which are significantly different or not in measuring antioxidant
activity.
The isolation of the skin and bones of asian swamp eel with pretreatment
using the base NaOH, and hydrolysis using acetic acid (CH3COOH), and salting
out using NaCl. The obtained isolates were analyzed for their antioxidant activity
using the DPPH and FRAP methods.
The results of testing for antioxidant activity using the DPPH method
obtained average IC50 values of 24,28±0,42 ppm. Tests using the FRAP method
obtained average IC50 values of 20,83±0,24 ppm. Statistical analysis using the
One sample T-test showed that there was a significant difference (p <0.05)
between the DPPH and FRAP methods.
