Abstract :
Oral abscess is an infection caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Temu
Kunci rhizome contains cardamonin, which is a flavoloid compound that can
inhibit bacterial growth. A mucoadhesive patch is a drug delivery system that is
used by placing it between the gums and the inner cheek membrane. This study
aims to determine the best formula for CMC Na and Carbopol in the
mucoadhesive patch of temu Kunci rhizome extract which has good physical
properties and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
Extraction of temu Kunci rhizome using maceration method with 96% ethanol
solvent and made 5 formulas for mucoadhesive patch preparations. The physical
properties test for mucoadhesive patches included weight uniformity, folding
endurance, and pH. Antibacterial activity test of patch preparations was carried
out by looking at the inhibition zone. The data obtained were processed by
statistical Analysis of Variance.
The results of this research that the best formula for mucoadhesive patch is
formula 1 with good characteristics. The results of the activity test of the
mucoadhesive patch preparation of the ethanol extract of temu Kunci rhizome
(Boesenbergia pandurata) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed
inhibition by increasing the extract to 30mg and 45mg.
