Abstract :
Acne is a skin disorder caused by excess oil gland production, due to
hormonal or bacterial infection. Natural ingredients have far less side effects when
compared to chemical drugs. One of the herbal ingredients that can be used as
antibacterial is Telang flower (Clitoria ternatea L). The advantages contained in
Telang flowers can be increased by turning them into nanoparticles.
Purpose of this research is to determine whether the ethanol extract
nanopartikel of telang flower have antibakterial activity against Staphylococcus
aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The thick extract of the Telang flower
was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol. The nanoparticles used chitosanNaTPP polymer using the ionic gelation method. Furthermore, the antibacterial
activity was tested with the well method against Staphylococcus aureus and
Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria with the amount of Telang flower ethanol
extract nanoparticles namely 17µg, 33µg, 49µg and 66µg and compared with
0.5% clindamycin (positive control) and nanoparticles without the addition of
extract (negative control).
Data were then analyzed with SPSS using One-way ANOVA. The results
showed that the antibacterial activity test of nanoparticle extract of Telang flower
at a amount of 17µg shows the largest inhibition zone of 16,23mm against
Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and 26,37mm against Staphylococcus epidermidis
bacteria. The result of the analysis using SPSS in the Post Hoc Test showed that
there was not different in antibacterial acticity antibacterial against
Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacterial at a amount
66µg ethanol of telang flower compered with positive controls
