Abstract :
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a disease caused by the growth of
microorganisms in the human urinary tract. The diagnosis of UTI is made if a
urine culture is found with the result of bacterial counts > 105
cfu / ml of urine.
The prevalence of UTI varies greatly based on sex, age, and bacterial species.
This study aims to determine the description of cases of urinary tract infections
based on categories of sex, age and bacterial species that cause urinary tract
infections most often encountered in the city of Medan.
The research uses the literature study research method with descriptive
analyzis method by analyzing and understanding the source of the data used. The
results showed that UTIs in Medan were more common in women than men
because of anatomical differences between the two. Besides UTI in Medan often
occurs in adulthood and the discovery of the types of bacteria that cause UTIs
include Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
Based on the results of the research above it can be concluded that
prevalence of UTI cases in women with age range >45 years is included in the
elderly category where the main cause Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae,
