Abstract :
Candidiasis is a fungal disease that has acute and sub-acute properties
caused by fungi such as yeast from Candida sp. Species, which can attack the
nails, skin, mucous membranes, and bronchi or lungs. Diabetes Mellitus Patients
have a susceptibility to infections both bacterial infections, fungal infections, and
viral infections. Diabetes Mellitus can cause several manifestations in the oral
cavity including gingivitis and periodontitis, loss of gingival attachment,
increased degree of tooth wobble, xerostomia, burning tongue, alveolar bone
resorption and tooth loss resulting in oral candidiasis. The purpose of this study
was to determine the description of cases of candidiasis in the mouths of Diabetes
Mellitus patients. Data analysis in this research was conducted descriptively.
Based on data on the description of cases of candidiasis in the mouth of Diabetes
Mellitus patients shows that in the mouth of patients with Diabetes Mellitus there
is the fungus Candida sp. with an amount of 45.86%. The most commonly found
Candida species are Candida albicans followed by other species such as Candida
glabrata, Candida tropicalis, and Candida krusei.
