Abstract :
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is metabolic disorder characterized by increasing
levels of blood glucose due to decreasing insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells
(insulin resistance). The increasing of blood glucose can cause an increase of
leukocyte count as a result of the inflammatory response. Increasing of leukocyte
count can be used as a marker of complications in patients with type 2 diabetes
mellitus.
This research used a type of research literature study. This study required
data from the research results of leukocyte count and blood glucose level in
patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus that isn?t accompanied by complications.
The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis.
The mean of leukocyte counted in all journals were still normal value.
Leukocyte counted in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus increased compared to
the control group, although the increase was still in normal values (3200-10000
cells/µL). The mean of fasting blood glucose level counted in all journals were
more than the normal value. Correlation test results showed the value of the
relationship between the mean of leukocyte counted and fasting blood glucose
level with p = 0,007 and r = 0,221.
This study concluded there was correlation between leukocyte count with
blood glucose level in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
