Abstract :
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Hyperglycemia can cause an increase in blood osmolarity followed by osmotic diuresis resulted in hematocrit levels in the blood. The purpose of this study was to determine there was a correlation between hematocrit values and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 DM. Research on this literature study used descriptive statistical methods by analyzing data with similarities in the literature used. Based on the literature the hematocrit examination used an automatic method and for the blood glucose examination used the enzymatic method of glucose oxidation. The results of the study that taken from 3 journals were Jabeen et al (2013) hematocrit values resulted 48.20% ± 1.15 and blood glucose levels 157.68 mg/dl± 4.14. Biadgo, et al (2016) research resulted hematocrit value 46.7%±5.1 and a blood glucose levels 163.7 mg/dl±1.33. Alamri, et al (2019) research resulted hematocrit value of 40.7%±4.7 and a blood glucose level of 169.4 mg/dl± 3.4. In 1 and 2 p-value journals there was no significant relationship, and in journal 3 pvalue there was a significant relationship with the correlation test r = 0.23 showed a weak connection. The conclusion in this study is that there was no correlation between hematocrit values and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 DM, this could be caused because not all patients with type 2 DM experienced polyuria (osmotic diuresis) which could affect the hematocrit value.
