Abstract :
Diarrhea is excessive fluid and electrolyte loss that occurs due to a frequency
of one or more bowel movements in the form of runny or runny stool. The most
common cause of diarrhea is Escherichia coli. E. coli is a gram-negative, short
rod-shaped, facultative anerobic, nonporous, motile-shaped peritric flagellum. The
use of antibiotics continuously can have a resistant effect on these
microorganisms. One alternative that can be used is to replace the use of
antibiotics with natural ingredients such as medicinal plants Momordica
Charantia L which can be used as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study was
to determine the ability of bitter melon as an antibacterial.
This study uses literature study research. The data used are secondary data
obtained from the results of research on the effectiveness of Momordica
Charantia L extract on Escherichia coli. The sample used was Momordica
Charantia L. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive analysis.
The results showed that the inhibition zone diameter was 19 mm with a
concentration of 100 µg / ml, 14.58 mm with a concentration of 10 µl, and the
results of the inhibition zone were 4 mm, 4 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm, 9 mm with a
concentration of 5 µl , 10 µl, 15 µl, 20 µl, 25 µl.
Then the greater the concentration of bitter melon extract used, the greater the
inhibitory zone that is formed.
