Abstract :
The need for water from day to day is increasing, especially clean water, thus
bringing changes to water quality, so to get clean water that is suitable for consumption
requires correct information. The existence of shallow groundwater in the community
does not guarantee water quality, because shallow groundwater is easily contaminated
through seepage which can contain bacteriological waste that can cause disease.
Bacteriological water quality can be tested by the MPN method, which can be used to
measure the limit of coliform bacteria contained in consumption water. This scientific
paper aims to determine the value of the most probable number (MPN) coliform in
water sources around the cattle and pig farms based on literature studies.
This research uses secondary data collection taken from several scientific
journals. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis method.
The results of research from 3 journals showed that the value of the most
probable number (MPN) coliform in water sources around the farm exceeds the
bacteriological standard of consumption water.
In this scientific paper, it can be concluded that the value of MPN Coliform in
water sources around cattle and pig farms does not meet the bacteriological
consumption water standard if it refers to Permenkes RI No. 492 in 2010 and the
discovery of the Escherichia coli bacteria.
