Abstract :
Staphylococcus aureus is a cluster of positive gram-positive bacteria in
groups. S. aureus can be found in the skin, skin glands, and nose. S. aureus is a
normal flora, but can become pathogenic when the body's immunity decreases.
Pathogenic S. aureus can cause infections in the human body. Natural ingredients
that can be an alternative antibiotic drug to inhibit the growth of S. aureus one of
which is the leaves of Piper betle L. (betel green). The purpose of this study was to
determine the ability of Piper betle L. ethanol extract as an antibacterial against the
growth of S. aureus.
The antibacterial test method used is the disc diffusion method. The ethanol
extract of Piper betle L. leaves was made using the maceration extraction method
with 96% ethanol solvent. The negative control used was ethanol 96%. Positi
control used was amoxicillin.
This study uses secondary data collection taken from previous studies.
Previous research taken is related to what is needed in this study regarding the
description of the effectiveness of ethanol extract of green betel leaf (Piper betle L.)
as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus.
The conclusion of this research describes the effectiveness of the ethanol
extract of Piper betle L. leaves is that the ethanol extract of Piper betle L. leaves is
able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The higher the ethanol
concentration of Piper betle L. leaves used, the greater the diameter of the
inhibition zone formed.
