Abstract :
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a bacterial stem, gram-negative, opportunistic
pathogen, and causes nosocomial infections including pneumonia and urinary
tract infections. Infections caused by K. pneumoniae can be treated with
antibiotics, the high use of antibiotics incorrectly can cause antibiotic resistance.
One of the natural ingredients that can be used as alternative medicine is the
Alpinia purpurata K. Schum rhizome. Scientific Writing based on literature
studies and literature review aims to determine the effectiveness of the Alpinia
purpurata K. Schum rhizome extract as an antibacterial against K. pneumoniae.
This research uses the literature study method. Data collection in this study
uses secondary data taken from several scientific journals. Analysis of the data
used is descriptive analysis.
Research results from the three reviewed journals reviewed showed that all
extract concentrations were able to form radical zones. The highest concentration
of the three journals in a row showed the inhibition zone diameter of 9.6 mm
(100%), 11.03 mm (80%) and 13 mm (80%), indicating that the higher the
concentration given, the more radical zones are also formed. All extract
concentrations were unable to form radical zones for the growth of K. pneumoniae
equal or greater than the 5µg ciprofloxacin antibiotic, but were still able to be
inhibited by the extract of the Alpinia purpurata K. Schum rhizome.
This scientific paper can be concluded that the extract of the Alpinia
purpurata K. Schum rhizome can inhibit the growth of K. pneumoniae, the higher
the concentration given the greater the radical zones formed.
