Abstract :
Clinical laboratory examination with accurate results is indispensable.
The stability of the sample examination should be noted, the light intensity
includes a factor of the impact of the sample on the total bilirubin examination.
Blue/UV Light can lower bilirubin levels in total, bilirubin absorb light energy in
the form of a heat and bind a free bilirubin. Bilirubin is freely converted into
water soluble, thereby reducing the concentration of Bilirubin in serum. The study
aims to determine the influence of light intensity against total bilirubin levels in
serum samples. Types of experimental analytic studies with total sampling
techniques. Serum samples were allowed to be exposed to the light intensity ? 500
Lux and > 500 Lux then in the check with Photometer Clima. The Data obtained
by the parametric test Paired Sample T-Test shows the results of total bilirubin
levels in serum samples exposed to the light intensity ? 500 Lux of 0.25 mg/dL
and > 500 Lux of 0.16 mg/dL with a decrease of 18%. The conclusion of this
study of serum samples for total bilirubin examination should not be exposed to
light with the intensity of > 500 Lux.
