Abstract :
The Indonesia people recognize and use medicinal plants as an effort to
overcome health problems. One of the medicinal plants to cure inflammation is
Impatiens balsamina leaves. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory
activity of the ethanol extract of the Impatiens balsamina extract cream and to
determine the concentration of the ethanol extract of the Impatiens balsamina
leaves in the cream which has anti-inflammatory activity.
Cream making was carried out at several concentrations of ethanol extract of
Impatiens balsamina leaves, namely 2, 4, and 6%. The anti-inflammatory activity
test was carried out on 5 treatment groups, each group of 5 rats by slashing on the
back. Hydrocortisone cream 2.5% was used as positive control and cream-based
negative control was used. The parameters measured were the speed at which the
wound healed. The data from the anti-inflammatory activity test were statistically
tested using one-way ANOVA and independent t test.
The results of the anti-inflammatory activity test showed that the Impatiens
balsamina leaf extract cream had anti-inflammatory activity, independent t test
against formula 3 with positive control obtained a significance value (0.070>
0.05) meaning that there was no significant difference between formula 3 cream
and positive control. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of Impatiens balsamina has
anti-inflammatory activity and in formula 3 the 6% concentration of the extract
has an anti-inflammatory activity comparable to that of the control, which can
heal wounds within 5-6 days.
