Abstract :
Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a plant that contains chemical
compounds flavonoids that function as antibacterial. The bitter melon fruit in this
study was formulated into an antibacterial gel extract of ethanol extract of bitter
melon with CMC Na gelling agent. Gel preparations provide a cooling effect on
the skin when used. This study aims to determine the effect of adding CMC Na to
the physical properties and stability of gel preparations. This type of research is
included in experimental research, with the independent variable CMC Na
concentrations of 3%, 4%, and 5%. The parameters seen were organoleptic,
homogenity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreadability, acceptability, and
effectiveness test on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The data obtained are
compared with the requirements and other library parameters and analyzed using
Oneway ANOVA statistics. From the research, it can be concluded that there is an
influence of the difference in CMC Na base concentration on the physical
properties of bitter melon extract gel (Momordica charantia L.). The results of the
research and data analysis show that those who have the best physical properties
include organoleptic, homogenity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, acceptability. The
stable CMC Na concentration in storage is 5%. The effectiveness of the bitter
melon extract gel with CMC Na 5% concentration on Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria has an active inhibitory value with a diameter of 12.62 mm.
