Abstract :
This study aims to determine the role of ethanol extract from ground
kale leaves (Ipomoea reptans Poir) in reducing levels of heavy metal mercury by
the SSA method. Leaves of ground kale (Ipomoea reptans Poir) were extracted by
maceration using 70% ethanol solvent. The ethanol extract of terrestrial kale
leaves obtained were analyzed by secondary metabolites. Determination of
decreased levels of heavy metals mercury by using Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometry with wavelengths 253,7 nm. Determination of concentration
reduction is done by using a series of concentrations of 4 ppm, 9 ppm, 14 ppm, 20
ppm, 24 ppm. The results showed ethanol extract of terrestrial kale leaves
(Ipomoea reptans Poir) positive containing flavonoids, tannin, alkaloid, saponin,
and steroids. Ethanol extract of ground kale leaves produces an average
concentration value that can reduce mercury up to 50% (EC50) by 10,45 ppm
(coefficient of variation 0,48%).
