Abstract :
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a bacterium that is capable of causing
infections in the urinary tract, lungs, respiratory tract, injuries, septiksemin,
digestive tract and liver. Inappropriate use of antibiotics in inappropriate dosages
can cause resistance to antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to determine the
ability of ethanol extract of matoa leaf (Pometia pinnata) in inhibiting the growth
of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria and the concentration that produced the biggest
inhibition zone in the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae. The method used is
Kirby-Bauer with variations in the concentration of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%.
The results of the data obtained were analyzed using Microsoft Excel to obtain a
bar chart of the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results of inhibition zones
formed from each extract at a concentration of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%
respectively were 16.4; 15.6; 9.63; and 6.35mm. The ethanol extract of matoa leaf
is able to inhibit the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae and the concentration of
100% is the concentration that forms the largest inhibitory zone to the growth of
the Klebsiella pneumoniae by producing an inhibition zone of 16.4 mm.
