Abstract :
Salam plants are one of the plants that are often used by the community for
alternative medicine. The part of the greeting plant commonly used as a treatment
is the leaves. Salam leaves contain flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids / steroids,
and tannins. The content of flavonoids contained in bay leaves can act as natural
antioxidants. This study aims to determine the potential of antioxidant activity of
ethyl acetate fraction and bay leaf water fraction. Fractionation is done in stages
using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. The ethyl acetate fraction and
water fraction obtained were tested for its compound content using phytochemical
examination. The antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction
was carried out using the DPPH method. The results of phytochemical
examination of ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction contain flavonoids,
alkaloids, tannins, and terpenoids. The results of the measurement of antioxidant
activity of salam leaves ethyl acetate fraction has the potential to be very strong
with an IC50 value of 47.7709 ppm and the potential fraction of bay leaf water
with a IC50 value of 52.3957 ppm.
