Abstract :
Klebsiella pneumonia is a bacterium that can cause disease such as
respiratory infections, urinary tract infections and liver abscesses. Kenikir leaves
(Cosmos caudatus Kunth) can be used as antibacterial. Kenikir leaves (Cosmos
caudatus Kunth) countain Flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and essential
oils. The purpose of this study to determine the antibacterial inhibition test of the
ethanol extract of kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth) on the growth of the
bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae and the most potencial concentration to inhibit
the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae. The method used is the disc diffusion
(Kirby & Bauer) with a series of concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.
The results of inhibition zone were analyzed using Mc Excel. The results
demonstrated inhibition zone of the extract at a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%,
100% of the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth) are 9,9
mm; 12,1 mm; 14,1 mm; and 17,0 mm. The highest ability of ethanol extract of
kenikir leaves inhibition at 100% concentration, and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin
has a diameter of 27,7 mm zone of inhibition
