Abstract :
Cholesterol is a component of fat, if there is too much fat in the body it
will cause fatty liver. This study aims to determine the anti-cholesterol activity of
melinjo leaf extract with different concentrations. This type of research is
experimental. Melinjo leaf extract was tested for phytochemical screening.
Cholesterol concentration analysis using the Lieberman Burchard method
measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometry with operating time at the 15th minute
and at a maximum wavelength of 668 nm. The concentration of melinjo leaf
extract solution used were 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%. Phytochemical screening
test results of melinjo leaf extract contain saponins, tannins, steroids and
terpenoids, vitamin C, and flavonoids. The average result of anticholesterol
reduction in melinjo leaf extract successively at concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%,
20%, 25% was 36.02% (KV = 0.4719%), 38.94% (KV = 0, 5785%), 41.50% (KV
= 0.4096%), 45.11% (KV = 0.2174%), 49.26% (KV = 1.4139%). The greatest
concentration to reduce cholesterol is 25% which can reduce cholesterol by
49.26%. The linearity value between the percent decrease in cholesterol levels
with the concentration of melinjo leaf extract was 0.9906. This shows a very
strong relationship where the greater the concentration of melinjo leaf extract, the
greater the anti-cholesterol activity.
