Abstract :
Papaya flower are known to contain high flavonoid compounds, in which
one of the effects of flavonoids is as antioxidant. This study aims to determine
antioxidant activity of papaya flower by ABTS method (2,2-
Azinobis(ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid), and tested its phytochemicals.
Papaya flower are made into a thick extract using maceration. The antioxidant
activity was measured by ABTS method with visible spectrophotometer at
maximum wavelength of 734 nm to obtain IC50 using vitamin C standard as
positive control. The presence of flavonoid compound was identified with
magnesium powder and concentrated HCl as reagen. The results showed that
papaya flower had antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 13,2755 ppm, whereas
vitamin C standard had IC50 value of 4,8946 ppm. Papaya flower ethanol extract
and vitamin C are very powerful antioxidants.
