Abstract :
Cucumber contains flavonoids, saponins and vitamin C. It is known that
vitamin C and flavonoids have an antioxidant effect by breaking the chains of highly
reactive free radicals that tend to form new radicals. The advantages of the buccal
patch compared to other dosage forms are that it?s use can be stopped only by
removing the preparation from the mucosal surface, the drug delivery can be
controlled longer, and the absorption capacity of active substances can be modified
by adding a plasticizer and permeation enhancer. This study aims to determine the
best formula for CMC-Na and Karbopol in buccal patches of cucumber fruit extract
which have good physical properties. Extraction of cucumber using maceration
method with 96% ethanol solvent and made 3 formulas for buccal patch
preparations. The physical properties test of the buccal patch carried out in this
study included organoleptic test, weight uniformity test, pH test, folding resistance
test, patch thickness test, and developer test. The best research result for the buccal
patch formula was formula I with good concentration of CMC-Na and karbopol (1,6
g :1,4 g), FI with an average weight of 0,087 ? 0,004, pH 5 test (1, drying
shrinkage), thickness test 0,01 (0,00, FI expansion test result 350%, and folding
endurance test 326 (9,8).
