Abstract :
Cadmium (Cd) is one of the heavy metal that is often considered as a
toxicant and can interfere with the health of the body organs. One example of the
use of cadmium is for metal foundry. This study aims to determine the cadmium
levels and to describe cadmium levels in metal foundry workers? hair in Ceper.
This study used purposive sampling method on 8 metal foundry workers in
Ceper. Hair samples were analyzed using Flame Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer (FAAS). The obtained data were analyzed descriptively and
presented in the table.
The observations show that good air ventilation in the metal foundry can
reduce workers' exposure to heavy metals. There are 5 workers classified as light
smokers and 3 workers classified as moderate smokers. It?s known that all
respondents rarely consume innards, seafood, as well as medicines and
traditional herbs which are known to be sources of cadmium accumulation in the
human body.
The results of this study showed that 8 hair samples had cadmium levels
<0.0277 ppm, the results were still within the cadmium levels limit in the hair
sample set by Biolab Medical Unit, <0.10 ppm.
