Abstract :
Anemia is defined as a decrease in the level of hemoglobin, hematocrit, or
erythrocyte count. But what is often used to screen for anemia is hemoglobin
levels. Elderly is a natural condition experienced by everyone when they reach a
certain age. Anemia is common in the elderly and the increasing incidence of
anemia associated with increasing age has led to speculation that the decrease in
hemoglobin is a consequence of increasing age. This study aims to determine the
description of hemoglobin levels in the elderly in RW 5, Kwarasan Village,
Grogol District, Sukoharjo Regency.
This type of research is descriptive. The examination method used is
photometry using the Hematology Analyzer Abacus 3CT. The time of the study
was January to July 2021. The study was carried out in the hematology
laboratory of the Surakarta National College of Health Sciences. The number of
research samples is 20 respondents with total sampling technique.
The results of this study were obtained from 20 respondents who had
normal hemoglobin levels as many as 18 respondents (90%) while those with less
than normal hemoglobin levels were 2 respondents (10%), with a total average
value of 13.77 g/dL, hemoglobin levels the lowest was 10.8 gr/dL and the highest
was 16.1 gr/dL.
The conclusion of this study is that the average hemoglobin level of the
elderly in RW 5 Kwarasan Village, Grogol District, Sukoharjo Regency is still
within normal limits.
