Abstract :
Extended-Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) is an enzyme that produced by gram
negative bacteria which is Escherichia coli. This type of bacteria is able to
produce beta lactamase enzymes that can fight beta lactam antibiotics, for
example cefotaxime and ceftriaxone. The prevalence of infection by ESBL
producing bacteria is 50,60%. Due to the increasing number of infections by
ESBL producing bacteria that become challenges to find natural ingridients that
can be new alternatives to overcome these problems. Carica papaya L seeds are
one of the natural ingredients that can be used. This study used an analytic
experimental type of research by conducting antibacterial activity tests to
determine the comparoson of the inhibitory power of 70% ethanol and 96%
ethanol extract of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L) on the growth of Escherichia
coli ESBL. This study used Carica papaya L seeds for the sample taken from the
ripe and fresh papaya and then dried it. The Carica papaya L seeds extracted use
percolation method and used 70% ethanol and 96% ethanol as the solvent then
made dilution in 100.000 ppm, 200.000 ppm, 300.000 ppm, 400.000 ppm, dan
500.000 ppm. The antibacterial activity using disk diffusion method with MHA
media. In this study, the results obtained by the Kruskal Wallis test with a sig
value is <0,001 and it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the
inhibition of 70% ethanol and 96% ethanol extract of papaya seeds (Carica
papaya L) on the growth of Escherichia coli ESBL.
