Abstract :
The consumption of coffee and chocolate in Indonesia is always increasing.
Coffee and chocolate are drinks that are favored by people of all walks of life.
Coffee and chocolate have contained caffeine, which has side effects on the
kidneys. Kidneys are organs that are easily damaged due to the presence of
substance chemicals. The effects of caffeine cause damage to tubular epithelial
cells. This research aims to determine the effect of coffee and chocolate steeping
on the kidney histology of white rats (Rattus norvegicus).
This research used an experimental type of research, using a posttest only
control group design research using 7 groups, including group K0 (control), 3
groups of brewing coffee K1 (3mg/200g/day), K2 (6mg/200g/day) and K3
(12mg/200g/day) and 3 groups of chocolate steeping C1(3mg,/200g/day),
C2(6mg/200g/day) and C3(12mg/200g/day).
The results of the Mann Whitney test for microscopic observations of
kidney histology in groups K2, K3, and C3 had Asymp values. sig p= 0.040; 0.011
and 0.013 (0.05). From the results of these studies, it said that steeping coffee and
steeping chocolate can cause changes in the histological picture of rats, in the form
of degeneration and necrosis.
