Abstract :
Acne is a skin disease caused by increased sebum production, sloughing of
keratinocytes, bacterial growth and inflammation. Natural ingredients that have
fewer side effects when compared to chemical drugs. One of the plants that can be
used as an antibacterial is bitter melon leaves (Momordica charantia L.). The
benefits contained in bitter melon leaves can be increased by turning it into a peel
off mask dosage form.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum formula for
Carbopol 940 and PVA in the manufacture of peel off mask ethanol extract of
bitter gourd which can affect the antibacterial activity between the optimum
formula for peel off mask of ethanol extract of bitter melon and product "X"
(commercial product as a positive control) in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus.
The thick extract of bitter melon leaves was obtained by maceration using 96%
ethanol. Optimization of the peel off mask combination of Carbopol 940 and PVA
using the Simplex Lattice Design method. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity
was tested by the well method against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and
analyzed by SPSS using One-Way ANOVA.
The results showed that the proportion of Carbopol 940 base and PVA was
1.08% and 10.91%, respectively. The results of the antibacterial activity test of the
peel off mask ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves showed an average inhibition
zone of 11,542 mm. The results of the analysis using SPSS in the post hoc test
showed that there was a significant difference between the treatment and the
negative control and there was no significant difference between the treatment and
the negative control. positive control.
