Abstract :
Moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) is one of the plants that has
antioxidant activity. Moringa leaf ethanol extract has been studied to have good
antioxidant ability. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimum cream
formula with good physical properties and antioxidant activity test. The method
used in this optimization is Simplex Lattice Design. The advantages of cream
preparations are easy to spread evenly, easy to use and easy to clean or wash.
The results showed that the optimum cream formula consisted of 1.272%
tween 80 and 9.728% with 3% Moringa leaf ethanol extract. The optimum formula
of the cream was made with the composition of tween 80 and span 80. The
parameters of the physical properties measured were viscosity 2500 (cps), pH 6,
spreadability 5.10 (cm), positioning power 1.60 (seconds). Verification using t-test
then the optimum formula was tested for antioxidants using the FRAP method.
Moringa leaf ethanol extract cream produced from the optimum formula
verified using one sample t-test obtained a significant value > 0.05, which means
there is no significant difference. The optimum formula of the ethanolic extract of
Moringa leaves has an antioxidant activity value of 3.44 ± 0.36 mgQE/g, meaning
that each gram of sample contains 3.44 mgQE which is equivalent to quercetin
standard. This shows that Moringa leaf extract has antioxidant activity equivalent to
quercetin.
