Abstract :
Male papaya flower (Carica papaya L.) is one part of the plant that has not
been explored much for content and properties. One of the metabolites in papaya
flowers is flavonoids, flavonoid compounds have antioxidant, antiaging activity. This
study to identify flavonoid compounds and determine flavonoid content from ethanol
extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction.
This study used male papaya flowers extracted with 70% ethanol using
maceration method for 3 days and remaceration for 2 day, then fractionated.
Determination flavonoid content using aluminum chloride colorimetric method, TLC
with n-butanol:acetic acid:water (4:1:5) as mobile phase and UV-Vis flavonoid
identification based on the presence of bands cinnamoyl and benzoyl.
Ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction
had total flavonoid content equivalent to quercetin of 0,6805 ± 0,0045 %QE, 0,4178
± 0,0058 %QE, 0,5411 ± 0,0052% QE and 0,5207 ± 0,0007 %QE. The Rf value of
the sample at 0.9375 indicates the presence of flavonoid compounds. Identification of
flavonoid ethanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction obtained
cinnamoyl and benzoyl are a substituted flavonoid 3-OH flavonoid, while n-hexane
fraction obtained cinnamoyl and benzoyl are flavonoids of the free flavonol 3-OH
type.
